Analytical case

Sales, pricing, and budget variance analysis in Excel

Ongoing analytical work within the e-commerce operation

What it was
A recurring review of customer and sales data from the store, used to decide what to charge, what to promote, and where performance was drifting from plan.
My contribution
I built and maintained the analysis in Excel using PivotTables, trend analysis, and performance tracking, then turned it into pricing, product positioning, and marketplace visibility decisions. I tracked results against targets and identified the trends and variances behind them.
What it shows
That I can structure raw data, find the variance, and support a decision with it. This is the part of my experience closest to financial analysis and capital markets research.

IIAbout

About

I am going into my second year of Financial and Business Economics at York University in Toronto. My studies centre on capital markets, financial modelling, and economic data analysis, and I have three years of the degree still ahead of me.

Alongside my studies I have run e-commerce operations across a catalogue of more than one hundred listings, worked in retail supply chain logistics handling receiving, quality inspection, and inventory control, and coordinated volunteer teams for community events of 100 to 200-plus participants. In that work I tracked sales results in Excel, compared them against targets, and used what I found to change pricing and product positioning.

University gives me the quantitative framework and that work gives me the commercial side of it. I am continuing to build on both, including through the York Economics Students' Association and the York Finance Club.

In the near term I am looking for a finance internship in capital markets or financial analysis, where I can learn from experienced analysts while contributing real work. Longer term I want to build a career in investment research and capital markets, and I am choosing my courses and side work with that in mind.

Fluent in Turkish, Azerbaijani, and English.
